    We present a basic dynamic epistemic logic of "knowing the value". Analogous to public announcement in standard DEL, we study "public inspection", a new dynamic operator which updates the agents' knowledge about the values of constants. We provide a sound and strongly complete axiomatization for the single and multi-agent case, making use of the well-known Armstrong axioms for dependencies in databases

    Topological phase in two flavor neutrino oscillations

    We show that the phase appearing in neutrino flavor oscillation formulae has a geometric and topological contribution. We identify a topological phase appearing in the two flavor neutrino oscillation formula using Pancharatnam's prescription of quantum collapses between non-orthogonal states. Such quantum collapses appear naturally in the expression for appearance and survival probabilities of neutrinos. Our analysis applies to neutrinos propagating in vacuum or through matter. For the minimal case of two flavors with CP conservation, our study shows for the first time that there is a geometric interpretation of the neutrino oscillation formulae for the detection probability of neutrino species.Comment: 11 pages, 3 figures, accepted in Phys.     Calcium-permeable channels activated via guanine nucleotide-dependent mechanism in human carcinoma cells

    AbstractPatch clamp experiments on human carcinoma A431 cells have revealed two types of Ca2+-permeable channels, the activity of which can be increased by the application of non-hydrolyzable analogues of GTP to the intracellular side of the membrane. With 105 mM Ca2+ in recording pipette at 30–33°C their unitary conductances (in pS) are 1.3 (SG-channels) and 2.4 (G-channels). G- and, possibly, SG-channels are activated from the extracellular side of the membrane with epidermal growth factor (EGF). The data are consistent with the hypothesis that both channels are activated via guanine nucleotide binding (G) proteins

    Analysis of the Sequence of Risk States in the Implementation of Information Projects

    The article deals with the issues of risk management of information projects. We propose not a deductive approach traditionally used in risk analysis, based on knowledge of the main provisions and their concretization in a real situation, but an inductive approach that requires data accumula- tion and the construction of training data sets as a result of a retrospective analysis of the progress and implementation of individual projects. It is proposed to use methods of trajectory analysis of sequences of events, each of which characterizes the state of risk of project implementation. To test this approach, random sequences of risk events are generated and data analysis methods are applied to these sequences

    Effect of the C-bridge length on the ultraviolet-resistance of oxycarbosilane low-k films

    The ultra-violet (UV) and vacuum ultra-violet (VUV) resistance of bridging alkylene groups in organosilica films has been investigated. Similar to the Si-CH3 (methyl) bonds, the Si-CH2-Si (methylene) bonds are not affected by 5.6 eV irradiation. On the other hand, the concentration of the Si-CH2-CH2-Si (ethylene) groups decreases during such UV exposure. More significant difference in alkylene reduction is observed when the films are exposed to VUV (7.2 eV). The ethylene groups are depleted by more than 75% while only about 40% methylene and methyl groups loss is observed. The different sensitivity of bridging groups to VUV light should be taken into account during the development of curing and plasma etch processes of low-k materials based on periodic mesoporous organosilicas and oxycarbosilanes. The experimental results are qualitatively supported by ab-initio quantum-chemical calculations

    A diagrammatic treatment of neutrino oscillations

    We present a covariant wave-packet approach to neutrino flavor transitions in vacuum. The approach is based on the technique of macroscopic Feynman diagrams describing the lepton number violating processes of production and absorption of virtual massive neutrinos at the macroscopically separated space-time regions ("source" and "detector"). Accordingly, the flavor transitions are a result of interference of the diagrams with neutrinos of different masses in the intermediate states. The statistically averaged probability of the process is representable as a multidimensional integral of the product of the factors which describe the differential flux density of massless neutrinos from the source, differential cross section of the neutrino interaction with the detector and a dimensionless factor responsible for the flavor transition. The conditions are analyzed under which the last factor can be treated as the flavor transition probability in the usual quantum-mechanical sense.Comment: 27 pages,7 figures, iopart class.     Effects of experimental rewilding on butterflies, bumblebees and grasshoppers

This situation is particularly relevant in agricultural areas in Europe. As traditional management practices and livestock grazing regimes ceased, rewilding could be a potential avenue to tackle current biodiversity declines. To test this hypothesis, we set up a 3-year experiment where 12 horses were introduced in three 10-hectare enclosure replicates (four horses per enclosure). Horses were kept without supplementary feeding to mimic ecosystem functions of wild horses. We applied Generalized Linear Mixed Effects Models and a backward stepwise model selection procedure to elucidate factors that modulate insect richness induced by grazing. Our results show that plant species richness, the proportion of flowers and plant height play a significant role for butterfly and bumblebee richness, while the opposite effect was detected for grasshoppers. However, the effect on grasshoppers was counterbalanced by increased grasshopper species richness in habitats adjacent to horse latrines. Rewilding with horses may offset current biodiversity declines by maintaining important functional links between plants and pollinators in grassland ecosystems. Horse grazing can however have different effects on diverse functional groups of insects. Application of integrative landscape scale approaches may be needed to elucidate the effects of rewilding for certain functional groups such as grasshoppers. With current biodiversity declines, up-scaling rewilding research and practice might be crucial to mitigate the pervasive effects on insects as their services and functions are critical for our existence.publishedVersio
